Noah Galloway on 'Dancing with the Stars': Judges call his first performance 'profound,' 'a triumph'

There wasn't a dry eye in the house tonight when Noah Galloway made his debut on "Dancing with the Stars."
This, at least, is what host Erin Andrews said after Galloway, an Army veteran from Alabama, performed the cha-cha with his partner, Sharna Burgess, on the ABC reality series.
Their brief routine, set to One Republic's "I Lived," apparently touched the hearts of audience members on scene at the live broadcast in Los Angeles. Andrews saw tears welling up, and she made sure that #TeamShway felt the love.
The judges also seemed moved as they watched Galloway -- a amputee who lost part of his two left limbs in Iraq -- move smoothly in sync with Burgess.

"Noah, you are a titan amongst men," said Bruno Tonioli. "You have a presence that is unique."
"Witnessing this, my heart is still beating," said Carrie Ann Inaba. "It was profound. ... You broadened my sense of what dance looks like."
"A major triumph," said Len Goodman. "Noah, I salute you. Well done."
The fourth judge, Julianne Hough, praised Galloway and Burgess for their strong connection on stage, and noted their obvious sense of trust.

Overall, it was a banner night for Galloway, 33, as he competed against 11 other teams on the show's Season 20 debut. They included Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev, Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough, Willow Shields and Mark Ballas, Michael Sam and Peta Murgatroyd, and Redfoo and Emma Slater.

True, he and Burgess didn't earn the highest scores of the evening from the judging panel -- that honor went to Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy -- but Galloway's team scored 26 points of out 40 for a solid debut.
Now viewers will have their say, casting votes for their favorite teams to determine half of the final scores. On the next episode, set for March 23, one duo will be eliminated and the remaining competitors will perform again.

Some folks might wonder how Galloway -- who's also a personal trainer, a motivational speaker and a Men's Health cover guy -- fits into the celebrity theme of the show. Host Tom Bergeron settled that at the beginning of the episode, when he introduced Galloway as "an American hero."
