U.S. forecast's late arrival stirs weather tempest

A European forecast that closely predicted Hurricane Sandy's onslaught days ahead of U.S. and other models is raising complaints in the meteorological community. The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on Oct. 23 warned that Hurricane Sandy would hit the East Coast on Monday, days ahead of other major hurricane models, which mostly saw the storm heading out into the Atlantic. Weather models take data from satellites, weather balloons and other observations and plug them into atmospheric physics equations that computers use to march ahead in time to make storm track forecasts. Although weather models converged remarkably well by the weekend to predict Hurricane Sandy's arrival with great accuracy, meteorologists complained of weaknesses in U.S. forecasting capability that were exposed by the better performance of the European model.

San Francisco Giants sweep Detroit Tigers in 2012 World Series

DETROIT – The Giants played a key role in securing home-field advantage for the National League in this year’s All-Star Game. As it turned out, they didn’t need it. San Francisco wrapped up a four-game sweep of Detroit on Sunday, clinching the Giants’ second World Series title in three years with a 4-3, 10-inning win over the Tigers at Comerica Park. The clincher was more dramatic than any of the first three games, as the Tigers actually held a lead, then tied the game in the sixth as the game eventually went to extra innings. But NLCS MVP Marco Scutaro singled in the go-ahead run against Phil Coke in the 10th inning, scoring Ryan Theriot from second base to give the Giants a one-run lead. Sergio Romo closed it out against the top of Detroit’s lineup, retiring Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera for the final out to set off a Giant celebration on the Tigers’ turf.

Final Presidential Debate 2012

The presidential debate on Monday night marks the third and final showdown between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The focus of the event is on foreign policy and comes with election day just weeks away. HuffPost's Mark Blumenthal reports on the latest polls out on the presidential race:The latest tracking surveys continue to show a remarkably close race between President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, with Obama maintaining very narrow advantages in crucial battleground states like Ohio that will likely decide the election. Eight new national tracking polls released since Saturday reinforce the conclusion that the race for president remains at a near deadlock nationwide. Three of the surveys give a slight edge to Romney, three give the edge to Obama and two show an exact tie, including the latest from NBC News and the Wall

Whitney Heichel Case: Missing Oregon Woman's Body Found,

Gresham Police have arrested a man, identified as Jonathan Daniel Holt, who they say is responsible for the aggravated murder of 21-year-old Whitney Heichel. Investigators say they’ve also found the body of Heichel, ending a four-day search for the Gresham woman who went missing on her way to work. She was found Friday evening on Larch Mountain, a wooded area about 10 miles east of Gresham that has been the focus of search efforts since Thursday. Detectives have been searching the mountain for two days, saying tips led them to the location. Meanwhile, detectives received approximately 50 tips overnight Thursday including the location of Whitney's cell phone found in a Gresham field. The FBI, Oregon State Police and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office are assisting in the investigation, with an estimated 40 to 50 detectives involved, Grandjean said. According to Gresham police, Heichel was last seen by her husband, Clinton Heichel, when she left her apartment in the 700 block of Southeast Mount Hood Highway. That was about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, and she was headed to her job at a Gresham Starbucks about five minutes from her home. Her husband reported her missing just before 10 a.m. Detectives later confirmed that her ATM card was used at a Troutdale gas station, located at Southeast 257th Avenue and Stark Street, at 9:14 a.m. Police have not disclosed if investigators believe the card was used by Heichel, or someone else. At about 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, family and friends distributing fliers discovered her black 1999 Ford Explorer sitting in a Walmart store parking lot at 23500 NE Sandy Blvd. in Wood Village. The passenger-side window was broken, Gresham police said.

Mitt Romney Tells Jokes At The Al Smith Dinner

Mitt Romney's eldest son weighed in on the second presidential debate on Wednesday, joking that the debate's contentious nature made him want to "take a swing" at President Obama. During an interview with North Carolina radio host Bill LuMaye, Tagg Romney said that hearing the president call his father a liar made him want to "jump out of [his] seat and ... rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him." He continued: "But you know you can't do that because, well first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because this is the nature of the process, they're going to do everything they can do to try to make my dad into someone he's not. We signed up for it. We've gotta kinda sit there and take our punches and then send them right back the other way." Romney, who has reportedly taken on a bigger role in his father's campaign in recent weeks, also divulged that Mitt often gets nervous ahead of debates. "He's terrified before he gets out there," Romney said. "Terrified is too strong of a word, but he's like anybody. He gets butterflies a little bit.

Town Hall Presidential Debate Format Decoded

Wonkbook’s Number of the Day: 3.1 percentage points. That’s the swing towards Mitt Romney in the Real Clear Politics average of polls between October 3rd, the day of the first debate, and today. Smarter poll readers than me have looked at these numbers and concluded that at least some of the movement towards Romney had begun prior to the first debate. Nevertheless, the first debate was clearly a huge, disruptive event in the presidential election, vaulting Romney to his first lead in 2012. The question tonight is whether Barack Obama can get some of those percentage points back, and if so, how many. Top story: Previewing the second presidential debate Tonight is debate night in America, round two. ”President Barack Obama and his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, enter their debate Tuesday night with different goals than the last time they met: Mr. Romney will try to build on growing strength among centrist voters that arose from his performance in the first debate, while Mr. Obama will aim to portray Mr. Romney as more conservative than his opponent has recently suggested…Aides said Mr. Romney has been focused in his debate preparations on how best to contrast his own policies with those of Mr. Obama on taxes, health care, Libya and other matters, while also connecting with voters.” Laura Meckler, Sara Murray, and Carol E. Lee in The Wall Street Journal.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler to host next Golden Globes

The decision, announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) on its official Twitter account, means acerbic Briton Ricky Gervais will not be returning for a fourth time to skewer Hollywood's leading film and TV stars at the annual ceremony. Fey, 42, creator and star of "30 Rock," and her former "Saturday Night Live" collaborator Poehler, 41, will host the gala dinner and ceremony on January 13, 2013, the HFPA said. Gervais hosted the event, which hands out awards to the best films, actors and TV shows of the previous year, for three years, attracting plenty of publicity along with criticism for his acid one-liners about the assembled celebrities. The British creator of the TV series "The Office" was the first person to host the Golden Globes ceremony since 1995. In the interim, the live, televised show went without a formal host and used presenters to introduce the various awards. The Golden Globes is one of Hollywood's key award ceremonies ahead of the Oscars, which take place next year on February 24 and will be hosted by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane.

Felix Baumgartner Jumps At 128k feet! Red Bull Stratos - freefall from the edge of space

In a giant leap from more than 24 miles up, a daredevil skydiver shattered the sound barrier Sunday while making the highest jump ever – a tumbling, death-defying plunge from a balloon to a safe landing in the New Mexico desert. Felix Baumgartner hit Mach 1.24, or 833.9 mph, according to preliminary data, and became the first person to reach supersonic speed without traveling in a jet or a spacecraft after hopping out of a capsule that had reached an altitude of 128,100 feet above the Earth. Landing on his feet in the desert, the man known as "Fearless Felix" lifted his arms in victory to the cheers of jubilant friends and spectators who closely followed his descent in a live television feed at the command center "When I was standing there on top of the world, you become so humble, you do not think about breaking records anymore, you do not think about gaining scientific data," he said after the jump. "The only thing you want is to come back alive." A worldwide audience watched live on the Internet via cameras mounted on his capsule as Baumgartner, wearing a pressurized suit, stood in the doorway of his pod, gave a thumbs-up and leapt into the stratosphere.

Derek Jeter breaks his ankle in Yankees loss to Detroit 10/13/12

Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the postseason after fracturing his left ankle in the 12th inning of the New York Yankees' 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the ALCS on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. "His ankle fractured, he's out ... he's out," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters after the game. "They talked about a three-month recovery period. It won't jeopardize his career, but he will not be playing any more for us this year." (Getty Images) Jeter suffered the injury after ranging to his left for an infield grounder hit by Jhonny Peralta. He stumbled and fell to the ground while screaming out in pain. He needed assistance off the field as a stunned Yankee Stadium crowd looked on in silence. "If he's not getting up, something's wrong," Girardi said. "Because when we've seen what he's played through the last month and a half and the pain that he's been in ... " Girardi said that Jeter will be replaced on the ALCS roster by Eduardo Nunez and shook off a reporter's question asking if Alex Rodriguez might slide over from third and play short.

Eddie Alvarez KO's Patricky Pitbull

Eddie Alvarez made his last fight under the Bellator banner a memorable one when he KO’d Patricky Pitbull in the first round. The first minutes started off with a bang. Alvarez would rock Pitbull early on, but would then get rocked by Pitbull, which is something of the norm for Alvarez in his MMA career. He would weather the storm, however, and then would land a sensational right head kick, sending Pitbull to the canvas. Alvarez followed it up with some more punches and the ref was forced to step in. Eddie was the first ever Bellator lightweight champion, and he certainly capped off his last fight in Bellator in spectacular fashion. Alvarez is more than likely heading to the UFC, and what an addition he would make to the stacked UFC lightweight division. This will be long awaited for Eddie because every fighter’s dream is to end up in the UFC, which is the best mma promotion right now. Eddie has some great speed, some dynamic striking skills, and can submit opponents when on the ground. He will need to avoid getting rocked early in the fight, however, if he wants to compete with the best that the UFC has to offer. It will be interesting to see how he fairs in his first UFC match. He certainly has the talent to hang with any of the top guys in the division. Wherever he goes from here, it was nice to see him win one last fight under the Bellator banner. Congratulations Mr. Alvarez.

Argentina vs. Uruguay World Cup 2014 Qualifiers Live Stream, Preview, Predictions:

The CONMEBOL enters Day 8 of World Cup Qualifications for the first time since September in the last set of qualification games in 2013. The top four has Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, and Uruguay. Chile sits in fifth while Venezuela breathes down their necks. Peru, Bolivia, and Paraguay are starting to fall behind as time runs out. Argentina vs. Uruguay 8 PM ET Arguably the most anticipated match of the day as the Celestes and the Albicelestes face off for CONMEBOL superiority. All eyes will be on the prodigious Lionel Messi who has been on fire for his club team Barcelona and scored a big goal against Paraguay in September's qualifying match. Messi continues to make his case for winning the Ballon D'Or for the fourth straight year. He has eight goals and 3 assists in the 2012-13 La Liga season. With the two goals and two assists from the Champions League matches and his two goals in the Spanish Super Cup, the superstar has a total of 12 goals and five assists in all Barcelona competitions this fall. If he continues this fine form for Argentina in this competition, there is no reason that Argentina cannot win and that the Ballon D'Or 2012 will not be Messi's. Like Us on Facebook Luis Suarez and Uruguay have been rather disappointing in their last few World Cup Qualifying matches. After pulling off a 4-2 win over Peru in June, the Uruguayans were trounced 4-0 by a surprising Colombian side. They followed that up with a disappointing 1-1 draw to Ecuador. Uruguay is currently tied with Chile for fourth place in the qualification round. More importantly, they have given up 11 goals in seven games and have looked dreadful on the back end. If they are going to make the World Cup 2014, that must change. Prediction: Any team with Lionel Messi right now is a favorite in any contest (unless Cristiano Ronaldo is on the other team). Uruguay's dreadful play over the last few games should make it a 3-0 win for Argentina. Watch Argentina vs. Uruguay Live Stream at 8PM ET HERE. Anderson Silva Win vs Stephan Bonnar -

The odds tell you all you need to know about the UFC 153 main event, that there is no need for any real in-depth analysis of how styles match up. In any measurement of the careers of Anderson Silva and Stephan Bonnar, the only logical conclusion about a fight between the two is that Silva should win. And yet if you are one of those people, like I am, that often wonders if there are other things at work besides the obvious, well, sometimes, you still have doubt. Allow me to take a turn away from statistics and tendencies, and move towards the more cosmic. Years ago, I began my career in newspapers, where I was lucky enough to occasionally cover Major League Baseball, and more specifically, the New York Yankees. I had grown up 30 miles away from Yankee Stadium and followed the team all my life, so I knew plenty about them, and because of it, I knew nearly as much about their rivals, the Boston Red Sox. For 86 years, the Red Sox found new ways to stumble. Even though they were often very good, they repeatedly failed to win a World Series while the Yankees vanquished them over and over and became baseball's most celebrated champions. The kicker to it all was that they helped build the Yankees' dynasty by selling them superstar Babe Ruth.

Vice presidential debate live: Watch Paul Ryan and Joe Biden debate in Danville, Ky

The Washington Post will live stream the vice presidential debate between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Vice President Biden (D) beginning at 9 p.m. You can watch it live on The Grid, The Post’s home for live, social events, and follow along with Post reporters for context, analysis and fact checks. What should the running mates’ respective goals for the night be? The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold wrote on the number one rule for vice presidential debates: If everyone ends up talking about the veeps themselves, they’re doing it wrong:Since 1976, there have been eight televised face-offs between vice presidential nominees. The ninth will come Thursday, when Vice President Biden debates Republican Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) in Danville, Ky. By now, both parties have worked out tactics for this odd ritual. They require the barbed wit of an insult comedian and the humility of the hind legs in a two-man horse costume. Candidates are told: Talk up your running mate. Zing your opponent. But avoid letting your career or your policy ideas become the focus. On the biggest night of your political life, it’s not about you. On Thursday, the stakes will be unusually high, and the job of playing second banana especially tough. Biden spent 36 years in the Senate. Ryan crafted a plan for remaking the entire government. Now, these proud, successful men will have to insist — convincingly — that they’d rather talk about somebody else. “Whatever you stood for, you stand for the team” now, said Samuel Popkin, a professor at the University of California at San Diego who has helped coach Democrats in debates. Popkin said the task might be especially touchy for Ryan, because Romney has said he would not adopt Ryan’s famous budget plan in full.

Wiz Khalifa Opens 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards

Nobody sets a party off quite like Wiz Khalifa, so it's only right that BET got the Taylor Gang captain to open up the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards, which aired Tuesday night (October 9). Cap stormed the stage to the beat of his O.N.I.F.C. single "Work Hard, Play Hard" in his usual rock-star fashion wearing a black leather jacket, black shades and a black fedora. The electric performer bounced back and forth onstage, doing his carefree Khalifa dance, kicking his legs and swinging his arms wildly above his head, while multicolored lights flashed behind him.The already-enthralled crowd at the Atlanta Civic Center turned things up a notch when hometown hero Young Jeezy marched out onstage to rock his "Work Hard" remix verse. "Every night it's champagne, n---a/ Key to life, maintain, n---a/ Nothin' changed but the chain, n---a/ What weigh a ki? My chain, n---a," the Snowman spit with his unmistakable Southern gruff. Lil Wayne, who appears on the remix as well, wasn't in attendance, so Three 6 Mafia veteran and Taylor Gang MC Juicy J gladly took his place with a verse of his own.

Red Bull Stratos Launch countdown: Man to dive from Stratosphere (37km)...

In less than two hours at the time of publishing, a man will skydive from the Stratosphere (36km), the highest ever freefall. As part of Red Bull’s Stratos mission to the edge of space, Felix Baumgartner will ascend for three hours in a stratospheric balloon to 120,000 ft or around 36.58km. He will make a freefall jump to the earth, reaching supersonic speeds. His supporting team of expert includes retired United States Air Force Colonel Joseph Kittinger, who holds three of the records Baumgartner is attempting to break. Kittinger’s record jump from 102,800 ft in 1960 was during a time when no one knew if a human could survive a jump from the edge of space. Kittinger was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and had already taken a balloon to 97,000 feet in Project ManHigh and survived a drogue mishap during a jump from 76,400 feet in Excelsior I. Kittinger spoke of the experience a number of times, in this excerpt highlighting the seriousness of the attempt and the terrifying feeling of jumping beyond any drag caused by the atmosphere. “… But when I was looking down at the earth, facing straight down at it, it was a very odd sensation; I was weightless, we will say, but I felt as if I were in a state of suspended animation. “What in the world is happening?” I’m sitting up here but I’m not falling.” “That was the sensation I had. I had no acceleration, no movement, heard no noise, nothing. It was absolutely quiet, absolutely still, and absolutely horrifying” Kittinger was spun during his fall, ripping around so quickly that he was unable to lift his arm to pull the rip cord, blacking out. His auto-chute saved him. Time of launch is expected to be 8:30 EST, weather permitting, which is around 11:30pm ADST – and weather conditions are favourable. We’ll update this post on Wednesday morning with news.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wins another 6-year term, electoral council says

President Hugo Chavez won re-election Sunday, defeating challenger Henrique Capriles and gaining six more years to cement his legacy and press ahead with his crusade for socialism in Venezuela. With about 90 percent of votes counted, Chavez had more than 54 percent of the vote, and Capriles had 45 percent, National Electoral Council president Tibisay Lucena said. She said 81 percent of the nearly 19 million registered voters cast ballots, one of the largest turnouts in years. It was Chavez's third re-election victory in nearly 14 years in office, though by a smaller margin than in 2006, when he won 63 percent of the votes. Fireworks exploded in downtown Caracas, and Chavez's supporters celebrated waving flags and jumping for joy outside the presidential palace. Chavez won more than 7.4 million votes, beating Capriles by more than 1.2 million votes, Lucena said. Capriles congratulated Chavez and told his supporters not to feel defeated. "We have planted many seeds across Venezuela and I know that these seeds are going to produce many trees," he told supporters in a speech late Sunday. Chavez spent heavily in the months before the vote, building public housing and bankrolling expanded social programs providing benefits to poor families. Capriles, a youthful state governor, became a strong challenger after winning a February primary and rallied an opposition that grew more united and better organized than in the past. But in the end, it was no match for Chavez's electoral prowess. Just as polls closed on Sunday night, hundreds of young red-shirted Chavistas took to the streets on motorcycles and said they were ready to begin celebrating. "Let them accept defeat," Kleiver Gutierrez said of the opposition. People holding posters of Chavez shouted to passing cars outside the Miraflores presidential palace.

Jake Evans 911 Call: Texas Teen Who Gunned Down Mother And Sister Was 'Planning On Killing' (VIDEO)

A chilling recording of a 911 call captured a 17-year-old Texas boy telling the operator in a calm, monotone voice that he had just shot his mother and sister multiple times. Jake Evans, 17, has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of his mother and 15-year-old sister and remained jailed Friday without bond. The double slaying in the family's upscale home in Aledo, about 20 miles west of Fort Worth, happened while Evans' father was out of town on business and his two older sisters were not home. The motive remains "a big mystery," Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Friday. During a 25-minute call to a 911 operator that started about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Evans calmly says he just shot his mother and sister with a .22 revolver. He answers "yes" when asked if he's sure they are dead. "It's weird," he says as the operator continues asking questions. "I wasn't even really angry with them. It just kind of happened. I've been kind of planning on killing for a while now." He adds that he could have shot "pretty much anybody." When asked why, he says first that he doesn't know but then says he doesn't like people's attitudes. Evans tells the Parker County 911 operator that his mother and sister were rude, but he also says his sister, Mallory, had a really sweet side. "This is probably selfish of me to say, but to me, I felt like they were suffocating me in a way," he says. "Obviously, you know, I'm pretty – I guess – evil." Evans describes shooting his mother several times and then, as his sister screams, shooting her in the head three times. He recalls apologizing to her and telling her to "hold still ... that, you know, I was just going to just make it go away."

Drew Brees Breaks Johnny Unitas' Record

With this touchdown pass to Devery Henderson, Drew Bress passes Johnny Unitas and throws for his 48th consecutive touchdown pass. That is the equivalent to 3 full seasons with at least one touchdown pass in every game. This incredible achievement comes right after the season where he passed Dan Marino's passing yardage record. Congratulations to Drew Brees and the Saints. Please Comment/Like/Subsribe!

F1 2012 standings after Japanese GP

Fernando Alonso continues to lead the F1 drivers' standings coming out of the 2012 F1 Grand Prix of Japan at Suzuka, but his margin over Sebastian Vettel has been slashed from 29pts to just 4pts with five races remaining in this year's championship. Alonso's exit after contact with Kimi Raikkonen in the first corner of the race meant that he had to watch his main rival for the title utterly dominate the rest of the race to maximise the points-scoring opportunity that Alonso's misfortune had presented. Before Vettel's back-to-back wins at Singapore and Japan, Alonso held what had looked to be an almost unassailable 37pt lead over the rest of the field - with Lewis Hamilton being in second place at the time. Now Hamilton has slumped to fourth place just behind Raikkonen, 42pts behind Alonso and increasingly unlikely to feature in the climax to the season's campaign. After the their podium successes at Suzuka, Felipe Massa moves up a place ahead of Sergio Perez from tenth to ninth in the driver standings, while Kobayashi climbs up from 13th to 11th position. In the team standings, Red Bull now have a 42pt lead over McLaren in the constructors championship, with Ferrari a further 20pts behind the Woking squad. Lotus are just hanging in with the leaders, but Mercedes, Sauber and Force India have now all lost touch with this battle.

N.C. State rallies to upset No. 4 Florida State

Mike Glennon found Bryan Underwood for a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 16 seconds left, helping North Carolina State rally to beat fourth-ranked Florida State 17-16 on Saturday night. The Seminoles (5-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) appeared poised to strengthen their grip on their division, leading 16-0 at halftime behind a dominating defensive performance. But the Wolfpack (4-2, 1-1) inched closer after halftime before coming up with a game-turning blocked punt by Mike Rose with 2:27 left, giving the ball back to Glennon at the FSU 43 with a chance to complete a stunning comeback. Glennon marched the Wolfpack down the field and completed a pair of fourth-down passes, the second when he found Underwood alone over the middle to tie the game and take the lead on the ensuing point-after kick. Live Commentary: Manchester City 2-0 Sunderland

64 min: Silva is beginning to pull the strings, yanking Sunderland all over the shop. An exquisite flick down the inside-left channel releases Barry into the area, but O'Shea is over quickly to lump a no-messing clearance upfield before the City midfielder can fashion a shot from 12 yards. Great last-ditch defending, but what a clever little dink by Silva. 63 min: City have the confidence on now, and they're first to everything. Sunderland had done their bit to the fast opening of this half, but they're second to everything at present. 62 min: Sunderland respond to the goal instantly, albeit only in terms of rejigging their personnel. Rose is off; Vaughan comes on. 60 min: GOAL!!! Manchester City 2-0 Sunderland. And there you have it. Kolarov gains a yard down the left, chasing after a clever ball by Silva. He whips the ball to the near post, where Aguero sidefoots powerfully into the left-hand side of the net. Chalk one up for Roberto Mancini, for that's quite a substitution. 58 min: The occasionally hapless Cuellar is at it again, conceding a needless corner down the right. From that corner, a bit of jazz noodling, and another corner eventually comes. And from that one, Richards towers to plant a header towards the top left. Mignolet leaps acrobatically to pluck the powerful effort from the air. This match doesn't have the feel of a 1-0 any more. 56 min: Kolarov flies down the left and zips a low ball straight through the Sunderland area. Balotelli, sliding in, is this close to extending his leg at the far post and toe-poking home. The crowd gasp in wonder mixed with mild frustration. And then applause, as Balotelli is replaced by Aguero. 54 min: Johnson goes after a sliderule pass down the inside-right from Sessegnon. He looks like breaking clear into the area, but Kolarov sticks out a leg and guides the ball away from the winger. Sunderland are really testing City's back line here. 52 min: I wonder if Martin O'Neill has spotted a kink in the City defence? Wouldn't take too much squinting, I suppose. Sessegnon, down the inside right, sends a diagonal ball to Fletcher, who has the better of Richards and powers a header towards the left-hand side of goal. It's a great effort, met majestically by Hart's dive, though the striker's flagged, correctly, for offside. Great football all round.

Dana White gives his side of Jeremy Stephens arrest situation (Updated)

Dana White did everything he could to get Jeremy Stephens out of jail and into the Octagon for his scheduled UFC on FX 5 bout with Yves Edwards on Friday at the Target Center in Minneapolis. But it wasn't meant to be. The fight was canceled and Stephens, as of the time of this writing, is still being held in a local jail. "I was 100 percent confident I was going to get him out and he was going to fight," White said at the post-fight press conference. The drama started Friday morning, when the UFC lightweight was arrested by Henepin County, Minn. authorities at the Marriott in Minneapolis and booked on an outstanding felony warrant. White said Stephens was held on a two assault charges based on a 2011 incident in Des Moines, Iowa. One commanded $1,000 bail and the other $20,000. "Where they ended was f--- insane," White said. "I mean, I could have gotten [Charles] Manson out for what they wanted me to pay for him."

Atlanta Braves Dispute Infield Fly Rule Call By Sam Holbrook In 6-3 Loss To Cardinals (VIDEO

ATLANTA -- Just like last year, the Braves lost out on a spot in the NL division series to the St. Louis Cardinals. Only this time, Atlanta was knocked out with the help of what will be remembered as one of the most disputed infield fly calls in baseball history. Trailing by three runs, the Braves would have had the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning. Instead they had runners on second and third with two outs, didn't score again and lost 6-3 Friday night in baseball's first, one-and-done, wild-card playoff game. Just like that, the focus shifted from Chipper Jones' impending retirement and the end of Kris Medlen's winning streak to a call that led to a 19-minute delay caused by enraged fans throwing debris and a protest by Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. Andrelton Simmons' fly ball into shallow left field fell between shortstop Pete Kozma and left fielder Matt Holliday, sparking the furor. Just before the ball dropped, left field umpire Sam Holbrook raised his arm to signal an infield fly, meaning Simmons was out. The call was later than is usual on an infield fly, a rule designed to prevent fielders from deliberately letting balls fall in attempts for a double play. This ball landed at least 50 feet beyond the infield. Gonzalez ran onto the field and argued the call with Holbrook and other members of the umpire crew.

Heather Clem, Hulk Hogan Tape Claims by Gawker Prompt Legal Threat

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Hulk Hogan and Heather Clem claims by Gawker prompted swift legal action Thursday. Hulk Hogan and Heather Clem (photos below) have yet to confirm to news that they are the male and female depicted in the video leaked online on Gawker.com. But Hulk Hogan is threatening to sue Gawker if the video is not removed. Since tape scandals erupted more than a decade ago across Hollywood, celebrities have confronted each case quick differently. Often, their attorneys refuse to comment about the tape. A comment for many can been seen as an admission that their client is depicted in the tape. In fact, much of the initial fascination with tape scandals is identifying the subjects. Hence, when an attorney comes out denouncing the tape as invasions of his client’s privacy, the presumption is that the client is depicted in the video.

Promo for Glee Season 4, Episode 5: “The Role You Were Born to Play” — Meet Blake Jenner's Ryder! (VIDEO)

We're still heartbroken from Glee Season 4, Episode 4: “The Break-Up,” but we're feeling like we've got a new lease on life thanks to the promo for Season 4, Episode 5: "The Role You Were Born To Play". Although we have to wait until November 8th for the episode to air (WAIT! We were just getting less sad!), it looks like it's going to be a good one. Ryder (Blake Jenner) makes his debut on the show — and it seems the newly-single Jake (Jacob Artist) may have some competition for Marley (Melissa Benoist)'s attention! Also, the long awaited Grease is cast, Will (Matthew Morrison) and Emma are having some issues, and some of the supposedly heartbroken characters look surprisingly happy... Oh, and did we mention Finn seems to be the new New Directions Director?

I messed up!' X Factor hopeful Jake Garza breaks down as the heat is on at boot camp

In Wednesday's episode of the talent show the contestants jetted to sunny Miami, Florida for the next test - and by the end of the night half of them were sent home. There were plenty of tears as nerves got the better of some of the younger contestants and viewers were treated to a 'Whitney-off' as two young women rivals sang the same Whitney Houston track one after the other. Cowell revealed at the start that the team had brought around 120 acts from the original auditions to Miami but only 24 people would make it through by the end of Boot Camp. The contestants looked thrilled when they learned they were headed to the upscale Mondrian Hotel in trendy South Beach and they soon got into the swing of things by sunbathing on loungers and admiring the view from the hotel's balconies. 'I want them to have a feel of the lifestyle that success can bring,' said judge Demi Lovato. But Cowell warned: 'This is not going to be a holiday. This will be the most intense week of their lives.

Son of embattled Mexico ex-governor found dead

The son of an embattled former Mexican governor and political party leader has been found shot to death. A relative of Humberto Moreira, who was president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and governor of Coahuila state, says his son's body was found Wednesday night in a rural area near Ciudad Acuna, across the border from Del Rio, Texas. The relative who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal says Jose Eduardo Moreira lived in Ciudad Acuna where he worked for the state government led by his uncle, Ruben Moreira. Coahuila state authorities didn't respond to requests for comment. Humberto Moreira resigned as party president earlier this year under the cloud of a $2.6 billion state government debt that accumulated when he was governor of Coahuila, financed at least in part by falsified documents.

Tigers' Cabrera wins Triple Crown

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) Miguel Cabrera became the 15th player to win baseball's Triple Crown on Wednesday night, the reluctant superstar thrust into the spotlight after joining an elite list that includes Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams and Lou Gehrig. HE DID IT! Check out photos from Miguel Cabrera's Triple Crown fun. The Detroit Tigers' slugger topped the American League with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBIs, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in the majors since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera's achievement wasn't assured until the Yankees pinch-hit for Curtis Granderson in their 14-2 rout of the Boston Red Sox. Granderson had homered twice to reach 43 for the year, tied with the Rangers' Josh Hamilton and one shy of Cabrera. Cabrera went 0 for 2 against the Royals before leaving in the fourth inning to a standing ovation. He finished the regular season hitting four points higher than Angels rookie Mike Trout, his toughest competition for AL MVP. Cabrera was the runaway leader with 139 RBIs.

First presidential debate 2012: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney's first face-to-face ....Watch Debate Live ClLICK This ADD Below

9:16 p.m.: Both men smirk to protect skeptical "there you go again" indulgence" when the other speaks. Romney has a red striped tie, Obama a blue tie. Both ahve American flag pins. Romney says he won't put in place a tax plan that adds to the deficit. He says Obama is repeating untruths. "I will not reduce taxes on high income Americans." Oddly, he saysPresident Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are in the spotlight on Wednesday night as they face off in their first debate at the University of Denver in Colorado. Ahead of the event, polls showed the race for the White House tightening in the key battleground states of Florida and Virginia. Speculation has swirled over whether the debate could produce a shift in the contest. HuffPost's Mark Blumenthal reports:

Erika y Capriles serían mucho más bellos que Obama y michelle ok...

The issue:Illegal immigration is a decades-old problem. With an estimated 11.5 million illegal immigrants living, and in many cases working, in the U.S. the question remains: What do we do with them? And how do we stop more people from coming? Lax enforcement potentially leads to more illegal immigrants competing with U.S. citizens for jobs and some social services, without necessarily paying income taxes. But a too-tight policy could mean farmers and others in industries that rely on the cheaper labor of illegal immigrants are left begging for workers, passing higher costs on to consumers or going out of business altogether.___Where they stand:President Barack Obama has pushed for the DREAM Act, a path to citizenship for many young illegal immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children. Efforts to pass the bill have repeatedly failed, most notably in 2010 when it stalled in a Democratic-led Senate after failing to win the 60 votes it needed to proceed to a full vote. Five Democrats voted against t

'I'm gonna knock you out': American Idol auditions cancelled as Nicki Minaj 'threatens and swears' at rival judge Mariah Carey

Tony Romo has a night to forget, as Bears down Cowboys

ARLINGTON, Texas — It was one of those nights for Tony Romo. One of those rough nights. His first interception came on a quick throw to a spot in the left flat, but intended wide receiver Dez Bryant wasn't on the same page. BOX SCORE:Bears 34, Cowboys 18 The football hit Charles Tillman in the numbers, and the Chicago Bears cornerback returned one of the easiest picks of his life for a 25-yard touchdown that made it 10-zip late in the second quarter. The next pick stymied a Dallas Cowboys scoring threat early in the third quarter, when Tim Jennings deflected a slant pass that hit wideout Kevin Ogletree in the shoulder pads. Major Wright caught the soft pop-up at the 6-yard line. The third one was the worst. Midway through the third quarter, Romo tried to take cover while under duress, and Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton punched the ball loose. It popped into Lance Briggs' hands as he ran downhill. And he kept running, 74 yards for a touchdown.

Ryder Cup 2012 - Final Day Highlights at Medinah Country Club USA

continuing the theme of his week at Medinah and dedicating Europe's narrow win to his late friend Seve Ballesteros, also nominated his team's victory as the greatest moment of his career. Olazábal, winner of the US Masters in 1994 and 1999, was half of the most successful pairing in Ryder Cup history with Ballesteros, winning 12 of 15 points available to them. "It's going to take a little while before it completely sinks in," he said. "It's been a very emotional week, especially when things were not going our way, but yesterday [on Sunday] everything turned round for us, our players made the putts and had the right breaks at the right times. We changed a couple of crucial matches around down the stretch and that gave us the chance to have this trophy back. It's completely different from playing, being a Ryder Cup captain. I think in my career it ranks number one. "Seve's been on my mind the whole week, during the whole journey of this Ryder Cup. We had his silhouette [on the sleeves of our shirts] and his name on the last day, but obviously I had Seve in my mind every day. When we managed to retain the trophy, all those memories were very vividly coming to life. If someone had written a script for it that would be the ideal one and for it to happen, Seve had to have something to do with it."
